RRC Guwahati GDCE Syllabus 2026 – CBT Pattern for ALP, Technician, JE & Train Manager (GDCE-01/2026) Job Details & Overview
Exam pattern and syllabus for the RRC Guwahati General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE-01/2026) for ALP, Technicians, Junior Engineers & Train Manager (NFR serving employees). There is a single-stage CBT per category, MCQ-based, on the same pattern as RRB direct-recruitment second-stage papers. CBT groups: Technicians (all departments), Junior Engineers (all departments), NTPC Graduate Quota, and ALP.
ALP – CBT + CABT
Process: CBT, Computer Based Aptitude Test (CABT), Document Verification and Medical. CBT: 120 minutes, 100 questions. Syllabus covers Mathematics (number system, BODMAS, ratio, percentages, mensuration, time & work/distance, interest, profit & loss, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, etc.) and General Intelligence & Reasoning (analogies, series, coding-decoding, syllogism, Venn, data interpretation, etc.). Candidates clearing CBT take the CBAT (must clear each battery separately; English/Hindi only; no negative marking); see RDSO Psycho Candidates Corner for AT patterns. Merit from CBT + CBAT per rules.
Technicians – CBT per Pay Level (90 min, 100 Q)
Separate CBT per pay level; 90 minutes for 100 questions (120 min with scribe). Negative marking 1/3rd; normalization across shifts. Qualifying: UR-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST-25% (+2% PwBD relaxation if short). CBT marks shortlist for further stages.
Technician Gr-I Signal (L-5) – GA 10, Reasoning 15, Computers 20, Maths 20, Basic Science & Engineering 35 (=100, indicative). Syllabus: current affairs, geography/culture/history/polity/economy/environment/sports/sci-tech; reasoning as above; computers; maths as above; basic science & engineering topics (illustrative, not exhaustive).
Technician Gr-III (L-2) – Maths, Reasoning, General Awareness plus trade-specific questions from the chosen ITI trade (qualifying ITI-trade test as applicable).
Junior Engineers & Train Manager
JE CBT includes a Technical Abilities part by chosen exam group; multi-session papers use normalized marks with a common Merit Index across groups (per the notification formula). Train Manager CBT follows the notified pattern. Candidates choose ITI trade (ALP/Technician) or Technical Abilities group (JE) in the application; questions come from the chosen trade/group.

Qualification Equivalences
- JE & ALP: B.E./B.Tech accepted in lieu of the 3-year Diploma in the same discipline.
- Technicians: Diploma/Degree in Engineering is NOT acceptable in lieu of ITI/CCAA (RBE 13/2019); Graduate Act Apprenticeship is not accepted for CCAA either.
- The qualification must be held on the closing date (17-10-2026) and recorded in service records.
- Selected employees execute an Indemnity Bond and undergo prescribed initial training.
- There is no EWS reservation in GDCE (RBE 72/2019).
FAQs
Is there negative marking in GDCE CBT?
Yes, 1/3rd per wrong answer in CBT. There is no negative marking in the Computer Based Aptitude Test.
How are multi-shift CBT marks compared?
Through normalization with a common Merit Index computed across exam groups (formula given in the notification).
Can a diploma replace ITI for Technician posts?
No. ITI/CCAA is mandatory for Technicians under RBE 13/2019.
