The Chair on Consumer Law and Practice was established at NLSIU in August 2008 by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
CLAP serves as a national centre for research, teaching, training, policy engagement and capacity building in consumer law and consumer protection.
The Chair undertakes research and policy work in areas including:
Consumer protection
E-commerce and digital markets
Product safety
Misleading advertisements
Data protection
Online dispute resolution
Financial consumer protection
Food and product regulation
Standardisation
Emerging consumer harms in the digital economy
