Overview
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune invites applications for the positions of Fellows supported through the following fellowship schemes:
- DBT-Wellcome Trust Fellowship
- DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellowship
- DST-Ramanujan Fellowship
- DST-INSPIRE Fellowship
This is a rolling advertisement – there is no last date for applying. Applications are accepted round the year and processed at regular intervals.

Academic Eligibility
- Ph.D. in subjects relevant to the Department in which candidate is seeking an appointment.

Application Procedure
- DST-INSPIRE Fellowship: Identify a regular faculty member of a relevant department at IISER Pune as a potential host (based on common research interests) and contact him/her with your Updated CV, Publication List, Research/Project Proposal, and Teaching Plan.
- Other Fellowships (DBT-Wellcome Trust / DBT-Ramalingaswami / DST-Ramanujan): Write to the Chairperson of the relevant department at IISER Pune directly with supporting documents/dossiers including Updated CV, Publication List, Research/Project Proposal, and Teaching Plan.
- Transfer Cases: Candidates who have already received a Fellowship award and wish IISER Pune to host, or those who wish to transfer their fellowship from another Institute to IISER Pune, must also follow the above instructions. Additionally, a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the current Institute/Organization/University is required, provided the funding agency permits the transfer.
Screening and Shortlisting
- Screening of candidates for a Research Talk/Seminar at the Departmental level is at the discretion of the concerned Department.
- The Fellowship Endorsement/Nomination letter shall be issued by the competent authority subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria and subsequent positive recommendations at the Departmental as well as at the Institutional Committees.
- A shortlisted candidate shall submit his/her application to the concerned funding agency after obtaining the Endorsement/Nomination from IISER Pune.
Period of Engagement
As per the guidelines of the funding Agency for the respective Fellowship award. Typically 3-5 years depending on the fellowship scheme.
General Information
- IISER Pune will purely act as a Host. IISER Pune shall have no role in the selection of the applicant by the respective funding agencies for any of these fellowship schemes.
- Applicants should ensure that their Ph.D. is in the area relevant to the particular department/discipline against which they are submitting the application. Non-compliance may result in rejection without any notice.
- The appointed Fellow shall have no claim of regular appointment/absorption in the Funding Agency or in IISER Pune.
- The appointment of the Fellow shall be governed by the terms and conditions of the funding agency particularly applicable to the said Fellowship.
- Documentary evidences will be verified during the selection process.
- The Institute reserves the right to revise or modify any conditions of the advertisement by issuing a suitable Amendment or Corrigendum.
- Any Amendment or Corrigendum will only be published on the Institute website. Candidates are advised to check the Institute website regularly for updates.
Salary & Benefits
As per the norms of the respective fellowship scheme:
- DST-INSPIRE Fellowship: ₹80,000/month (for candidates with 3+ years post-PhD) or ₹70,000/month (with 2-3 years post-PhD) + HRA as per DST norms.
- DST-Ramanujan Fellowship: ₹1,00,000/month + HRA for 5 years.
- DBT-Ramalingaswami Fellowship: ₹1,00,000/month (consolidated) + HRA for 5 years.
- DBT-Wellcome Trust Fellowship: As per Wellcome Trust/DBT norms.
