The GSSSB Research Assistant and Statistical Assistant (Class-3) Syllabus 2026 has been released by the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) under Advertisement No. 457/2026-27. The exam is conducted through the MCQ-CBRT (Computer Based Recruitment Test) mode in both Gujarati and English. Exam Pattern

The competitive test is divided into two parts – Part A (common/general topics) and Part B (subject-specific to educational qualification). There is negative marking of 1/4 mark for every wrong answer, calculated on a pro-rata basis relative to the marks allotted to that question.

1. Statistics (30 Marks)

Basic Statistics: Collection, compilation and presentation of data; primary and secondary data; qualitative and quantitative data; methods of collecting primary data; frequency distribution and tabulation; diagrammatic representation of data; measures of central tendency (Mean, Median, Mode, Geometric Mean, Harmonic Mean, Quartiles, Deciles, Percentiles); measures of dispersion (Range, Quartile Deviation, Mean Deviation, Variance, Standard Deviation, Coefficient of Variation); moments; skewness and kurtosis.

Probability: Mathematical, classical and axiomatic definitions of probability; conditional probability.

Probability Distributions: Random variable; types of probability distribution; standard discrete and continuous distributions – Uniform, Bernoulli, Binomial, Poisson (discrete) and Normal, Standard Normal Variable/Distribution (continuous); importance of Normal Distribution; basic concept of Central Limit Theorem.

Sampling Theory: Population and sample; sampling advantages and limitations; characteristics of a good sample; types of sampling (Simple Random, Stratified, Systematic, Cluster, Purposive); sampling and non-sampling errors; sampling distributions of sample mean, sample variance, t, Chi-Square and F.

Testing of Hypothesis: Null and Alternative Hypothesis, Simple and Composite Hypothesis, Type I and Type II errors, Level of Significance, Parameter and Statistic, P-value, Degree of Freedom; Standard Error; large and small sample tests; parametric and non-parametric tests; basic concept of ANOVA.

Index Number: Meaning, definition, characteristics, use, limitations; Wholesale Price Index Number; computation methods – Laspeyre’s, Paasche’s and Fisher’s formulas.

Correlation and Regression: Meaning, definition, types; methods (Scatter Diagram, Spearman’s Rank/Karl Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient); properties of correlation and regression coefficients; linear and non-linear regression.

Time Series Analysis: Introduction, use, components of time series, methods of determining trend.

Important Notes from the Official Notification

• The marks shown against each topic are indicative; the Board reserves the right to make changes without assigning any reason.
• The Gujarati version of the syllabus is provided for candidates’ convenience; in case of any conflict in interpretation, the English syllabus will be treated as final.
• If a bilingual question raises an interpretation dispute, the Board’s decision on that specific question will be final.
• If any question is cancelled after the final answer key is published, the marks of the cancelled question will be redistributed pro-rata among the remaining questions.
• For a correct answer, marks are awarded as per the pro-rata weightage of that question; for a wrong answer, 1/4 of the pro-rata marks allotted to that question is deducted.

How to Prepare

• Start with the official topic list: mark which topics you already know versus need to build from scratch, especially Statistics and Economics, which carry 60 of the 120 Part B marks.
• Build a two-part study timetable: Part A and Part B are weighted almost equally, so divide daily study time between both instead of over-focusing on one.
