The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Notice of Junior Engineer (JE) Examination, 2026 vide F. No. HQ-C-3019/1/2026-C-3 for recruitment of Junior Engineers in various Organizations/Offices of the Government of India along with Scientific Assistant posts in India Meteorological Department (IMD). All the posts are of Group ‘B’ in Level-6 (Rs. 35400-112400/-) of the Pay Matrix of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

Educational Qualification (as on closing date)
- JE (Civil): Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/Institute OR (a) Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/Institute/Board AND (b) Two years’ working experience in Planning/Execution/Maintenance of Civil Engineering works (organization-wise requirement as per notice).
- JE (Electrical): Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University/Institute.
- JE (Mechanical): Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University/Institute.
- JE (Electrical & Mechanical): Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR Diploma in Electrical/Automobile/Mechanical Engineering with two years’ relevant experience (per BRO/MES norms).
- JE (Telecom) in DoT: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical/Electronics/Electrical Communications/Computer Science/Telecommunications/Information Technology/Instrumentation from a recognized University or Institute.
- Scientific Assistant in IMD: Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Computer Applications/Electronics/Electronics & Communication/Instrumentation/Information Technology/Telecommunication/Communication Engineering.
Experience, wherever required, must be acquired after completion of the requisite educational qualification. ODL/Online qualifications in prohibited disciplines are not accepted as per UGC Regulations, 2020. Diploma in Engineering awarded by IGNOU to students enrolled up to 2009-10 is valid as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order dated 11.03.2019.
Age Limit (Crucial date: 01.08.2026)
- For posts with age limit up to 30 years: Born not earlier than 02.08.1996 and not later than 01.08.2008.
- For posts with age limit up to 32 years (CPWD, DG Lighthouses & Lightships): Born not earlier than 02.08.1994 and not later than 01.08.2008.

Selection Process
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination) - Qualifying in Nature. General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks) and General Engineering subject as opted (100 marks). Total 200 questions / 200 marks, 2 hours duration.
- Paper-II (Computer Based Examination) - 100 questions / 300 marks, 2 hours duration. Paper-II subject as per post opted: Part-A (JE Civil), Part-B (JE Electrical), Part-C (JE Mechanical), Part-D/E/F (Scientific Assistant in IMD - CS/IT, E&TC, Physics), Part-G (JE Telecom).
- Document Verification by the User Department.
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I and 1 (one) mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II.
Questions will be set in Hindi and English only. Normalized marks of Paper-I will be used to shortlist candidates for Paper-II, and only normalized scores of Paper-II will be used to determine final merit. IS 456:2000 code table, Steam Table and Scientific Calculator will be available on the candidate’s console during the examination. Tentative answer key challenge fee is Rs. 50/- per question.
BRO - Physical and Medical Standards
Physical Efficiency Test, Physical and Medical Standards for the posts of Junior Engineers in Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are enclosed as Annexure-XVI of the notice. Only male candidates are eligible for the post(s) of Junior Engineer(s) in BRO. Once a post is allocated as per merit-cum-preference, it may not be changed later on account of failure in these standards.
Nationality
Candidates must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, etc., with the intention of permanently settling in India (with certificate of eligibility where applicable).

- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in (OTR generated on the old website ssc.nic.in will not be functional).
- Fill the Online Application Form through the SSC (HQ) website https://ssc.gov.in or the ‘mySSC’ mobile application (Google Play Store).
- Upload scanned signature (JPEG, 10-20 KB, approx 6.0 cm x 2.0 cm) and a real-time photograph captured as per module instructions.
- Candidates are advised to opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication for smoother processing.
- Pay the applicable fee online (if not exempted) up to 23.09.2026 (23:00 hours).
