- Written descriptive examination of 500 marks with viva voce of 50 marks, totaling 550
- Shortlisting for viva on written merit at about 3 times the vacancies with qualifying marks fixed by the Commission
- Final merit on the aggregate with ties broken by higher written marks and then senior age
