Applications are invited from Indian citizens for a contractual Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under the sponsored research project “Development of cost-effective, bioactive titanium alloys for orthopedic implants with low modulus, high strength, and tribocorrosion resistance: Integrating alloy design with duplex nanoscale surface engineering” in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT Rourkela. Engagement is purely temporary/contractual and co-terminus with the project.

Essential Qualification
B.E/B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc(Engineering) in Metallurgy / Metallurgical and Materials Engineering / Ceramic / Chemical / Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering / Computer Science with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA in the preceding qualifying degree; or M.Sc in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA in the preceding qualifying degree. Candidates with B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc must have a valid GATE score; candidates with M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc(Engineering) should have qualified GATE previously.
Note: In case of non-availability of a suitable GATE/NET-qualified candidate, candidates without GATE/NET may be considered for Project Associate-I with a fellowship of Rs. 30,000 pm, based on merit and interview performance.
Desirable Qualification
- Alloy design and/or metal casting.
- Materials characterization.
- Mechanical behaviour and/or mechanical testing.
- Surface modification and surface characterization of metallic materials.
- Electrochemistry/corrosion/tribology.
- Physical metallurgy of titanium alloys.
Job Description
- Conducting experiments and analyzing results on the processing–microstructure–property relationship in titanium alloys for biomedical applications.
- Preparing project reports and manuscripts.
- Presenting results at conferences/workshops.
Scope to enrol in the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (subject to fulfilment of all Institute/Department eligibility criteria).
