NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad - Associate (Mitigation), The Square Circle Clinic (posted 25 September 2026)
The NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, through The Square Circle Clinic (TSCC), is seeking to engage, on a contractual basis, three (3) associates in the position of Associate (Mitigation) at its New Delhi office. The contract will be for one year initially and may be extended annually at the University’s discretion.
The Associate will work on cases handled by TSCC, primarily concerning prisoners sentenced to death, as part of the defence team providing legal representation to death-row prisoners — collecting and analysing qualitative information to develop a life history of the accused, and preparing mitigation investigation reports.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in social work, psychology, criminology, development studies, economics, sociology, law or any allied discipline.
- Two (2) years of work experience in the respective field preferred.
- Previous fieldwork involving ethnographic research, interviewing, investigative capacities and/or mental health is an advantage.
- Substantial proficiency in reading/speaking Hindi is necessary. Proficiency in Bhojpuri, Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil or Telugu is an advantage.
Compensation
Rs. 65,000/- per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is paid under grants received by TSCC.
