About the Role

The Department seeks an outstanding philosopher with expertise in Ethics and/or Politics to strengthen its research and teaching profile.

The successful candidate will:

• Lead and develop an independent programme of internationally recognized research.

• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

• Supervise and mentor students.

• Participate in departmental academic activities and initiatives.

• Support the continued growth and reputation of the Philosophy Department through research, publications, and scholarly engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Research

• Conduct high-quality, original research in Ethics and/or Political Philosophy.

• Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals and academic outlets.

• Develop and sustain an internationally recognized research profile.

• Contribute to research collaborations and scholarly networks.

Teaching & Supervision

• Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

• Design and develop course materials and curricula.

• Supervise student dissertations and research projects.

• Support student learning and academic development.

Academic Service

• Contribute to departmental administration and governance.

• Participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, and public engagement activities.

• Support the department’s research culture and academic community.

Essential Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

Academic Qualifications

• A PhD in Philosophy or a closely related discipline (awarded or viva passed by the time of appointment).

Research Excellence

• Outstanding research achievement and future potential appropriate to career stage.

• Ability to lead an independent programme of research in Ethics and/or Political Philosophy.

• Evidence of scholarly publications or research outputs of high quality.

Teaching Experience

• Proven teaching competence and experience in higher education.
