IIT (ISM) Dhanbad invites applications from Indian Nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals for the posts of Assistant Professor (Grade-I/II) (Advertisement No. 411002/1/2026-Dean(F)/1 dated 30 June 2026).
Total 30 vacancies: UR 12, SC 5, ST 2, OBC (NCL) 8, EWS 3. Out of 30 posts, 2 posts are reserved for Divyang candidates - 01 post for Low vision only and 01 post for Hard of hearing only.

Reservation as per GoI/MoE norms: SC-15%, ST-7.5%, OBC (NCL)-27%, EWS-10%, PwBD-4%. Women and PwD applicants encouraged to apply.
Pay (7th CPC): Assistant Professor Grade-II - Academic Pay Level 10, minimum basic pay Rs. 70,900/-; Assistant Professor Grade-I - Academic Pay Level 12, minimum basic pay Rs. 1,01,500/-; plus DA, HRA, Transport Allowance and other applicable allowances. Total emoluments (including 14% employer contribution under NPS): Grade-II Rs. 1,49,262/- (with HRA) / Rs. 1,35,082/- (without HRA); Grade-I Rs. 2,11,196/- (with HRA) / Rs. 1,90,896/- (without HRA).
Grade-II (Contract) is for candidates with less than three years of post-Ph.D. industrial/research/teaching experience; Grade-I (Regular) for candidates with at least three years of post-Ph.D. experience. On completing one year of experience, a Grade-II incumbent may move to Pay Level 11, and subsequent placement in Grade-I is based on internal performance assessment.
Faculty support: Professional Development Allowance of Rs. 3.0 Lakhs in a three-year block, Research Support Grants (Faculty Research Scheme initiation grant up to Rs. 20 Lakhs; special financial support of Rs. 30 Lakhs to establish a laboratory; collaborative interdisciplinary lab support up to Rs. 100 Lakhs), telephone reimbursement up to Rs. 2,000/- per month, medical facilities, Children Education Allowance, LTC, on-campus transit accommodation, computing facility, relocation reimbursement up to Rs. 1.25 Lakh, etc.
Foreign nationals can be offered contractual appointment for up to five years, renewable thereafter. Political and security clearance may be necessary for individuals with foreign passports.
