The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru — an autonomous institution under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India — invites eligible young, bright and highly motivated individuals to attend a walk-in interview for the post of Project Assistant to work on the DST-WIDUSHI funded project titled “Investigating the Distribution of dark matter in galaxies, and its effect on disk dynamics, star formation and galaxy evolution”.

Essential Qualifications

  • B.Sc degree in Physics / Astrophysics / Astronomy / Applied Physics with minimum 60% aggregate marks from a University / Institution recognised by UGC / AICTE.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in computational stellar physics, galaxy evolution, analysis of UV and optical data, and exposure to multi-wavelength data from telescopes such as JWST, ALMA, HST and GALEX.
  • Skills in high-performance computing and Python programming.
  • At least one first-author publication is desirable but not necessary.

Walk-in Interview Details

Date: 28 September 2026, between 09.00 AM and 05.00 PM at the Institute Campus, 2nd Block, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru – 560034. Candidates must register their name between 09.00 AM and 10.00 AM; candidates coming after 10.00 AM will not be entertained.

  1. Attend the walk-in interview with the duly filled prescribed application (attached to the advertisement) with a passport-size photograph pasted on the top.
  2. Carry original certificates related to qualification and experience plus one set of self-certified photocopies, failing which the candidature will not be considered.
  3. Bring original and one copy of CV, date of birth proof, educational qualification certificates, experience certificates (if applicable) and ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Driving Licence).
  4. No TA/DA will be reimbursed and the appointment is purely on a contract basis.
