The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru is hiring one Project Assistant (Astronomy Outreach) under the NCSTC/DST funded project titled “Astronomy outreach as a tool to promote science literacy in rural and other under-served communities”, anchored by its Science Communication, Public Outreach and Education (SCOPE) Section. The project promotes astronomy primarily in rural Karnataka (through Arivu Kendras and Residential Schools), Tamil Nadu and Ladakh.

Vacancy Details

Essential Qualifications

• Master’s or BS-MS degree in Physics / Mathematics, or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, with 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade from a recognised University / Institution under UGC or Central or State Governments.

Essential Skills

• Basic knowledge of astronomy, especially amateur astronomy.
• Fluent in written and spoken Kannada.
• Experience in science or astronomy communication, especially in non-urban settings.

Desirable

• Ability to handle telescopes, amateur astronomy apps and tools.
• Experience in graphic design and video editing tools, and Google services.
• Experience in astronomy outreach for large audiences.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Job Description

• Support project work with Arivu Kendras and Residential Schools across Karnataka, schools in Tamil Nadu and UT Ladakh, and other networks.
• Help develop programmes and activities to achieve the aims of the project.
• Help organise and conduct training workshops at various locations.
• Help create resource material such as activity sheets, posters, videos and hands-on activities.
• Help conduct in-person activities at schools and other locations.

Walk-in Interview Details

Date: 06 October 2026, between 09.00 AM and 05.00 PM at the Institute Campus, 2nd Block, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru – 560034. Candidates must register between 09.00 AM and 10.00 AM; late entrants will not be entertained. Candidates may apply for both posts under IIA/11/2026-27 or for any one post.

1. Attend the walk-in interview with the duly filled prescribed application, passport-size photograph pasted on top, original certificates and one set of self-certified photocopies.
2. Bring original and one copy of CV, date of birth proof, educational qualification certificates, experience certificates (if applicable) and ID proof.
