The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru is hiring one Project Assistant (Astronomy Kits) under the NCSTC/DST funded project titled “Astronomy outreach as a tool to promote science literacy in rural and other under-served communities”, anchored by its Science Communication, Public Outreach and Education (SCOPE) Section. Low-cost astronomy kits will be developed and prototyped through this programme for eventual large-scale use in astronomy clubs.

Essential Qualifications

Job Description

  • Research and collate astronomy & physics concepts, experiments and educational resources for school and junior college level.
  • Design, prototype, fabricate, assemble and test basic and advanced astronomy outreach kits.
  • Develop hands-on activities, demonstrations and experimental setups for astronomy outreach.
  • Prepare technical documentation, activity procedures, user manuals, videos and other resource material.
  • Test, troubleshoot and improve developed prototypes and kits.
  • Deploy and demonstrate kits during astronomy workshops, exhibitions and outreach programmes.
  • Maintain records of designs, components, fabrication, testing and feedback.

Walk-in Interview Details

Date: 06 October 2026, between 09.00 AM and 05.00 PM at the Institute Campus, 2nd Block, Koramangala, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru – 560034. Candidates must register between 09.00 AM and 10.00 AM; late entrants will not be entertained. Candidates may apply for both posts under IIA/11/2026-27 or for any one post.
