Syllabus Source Note

  • The trade-wise syllabus on this page is based on the previous BHEL Artisan examination as compiled from published sources.
  • The official 2026 detailed advertisement (expected by 19 October 2026) may revise topics or the pattern — treat it as the final source.
  • Check the official careers portal: careers.bhel.in for the detailed advertisement and updates.

How to Prepare for the BHEL Artisan Exam

  • Start with your own trade's syllabus — Trade Theory carries 70 of the 120 marks, so build your plan around it before touching anything else.
  • Treat Engineering Drawing and Workshop Calculation as scoring areas — these 30 marks come from a fixed list of topics such as ratio, percentage, mensuration and drawing conventions; regular practice here is usually quicker than covering a wide theory topic.
  • Prepare the Reasoning section separately — it carries 20 marks.
  • Practise against the clock — 120 questions in 90 minutes leaves about 45 seconds per question; take full-length mock tests in that format.
  • Be selective with guesses — each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so skip questions where you cannot eliminate at least one option.
  • Revise weak topics every week — after each mock test, list the topics you missed and revisit them before the next test.

30-Day Study Plan (Indicative)

  • Days 1–10 — Trade Theory: cover your trade's full theory topics with diagrams and worked examples.
  • Days 11–20 — Drawing and Calculation: complete the fixed Engineering Drawing & Workshop Calculation topics plus Reasoning practice.
  • Days 21–30 — Mocks and revision: full-length 120-question mocks in 90 minutes, error analysis, and weekly weak-topic revision.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is the BHEL Artisan syllabus 2026? Three parts — Trade Theory (70 marks), Engineering Drawing and Workshop Calculation (30 marks) and Reasoning (20 marks); theory and drawing topics differ by trade and are based on the previous BHEL Artisan exam, and the official 2026 notification may revise them.
  • What is the exam pattern? The previous pattern has 120 objective questions for 120 marks in 90 minutes; the 2026 CBT is tentatively scheduled for December 2026 and the detailed advertisement will confirm the final pattern.
  • How many questions are asked? 120 questions — 70 on Trade Theory, 30 on Engineering Drawing and Workshop Calculation, and 20 on Reasoning (previous pattern).
  • Is there negative marking? Yes — 1 mark per correct answer and 0.25 marks deducted per wrong answer (previous pattern).
  • Is the syllabus the same for all trades? No — Fitter, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic and Foundryman each have their own Trade Theory and drawing syllabus; the marks split and the 90-minute duration stay the same.
