- A(i): A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- A(ii): cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or an accredited similar test (SLET/SET), or awarded a Ph.D. per UGC Regulations 2009/2016 (exempt from NET/SLET/SET); pre-11.07.2009 Ph.D. registrants governed by then-existing ordinances with the five listed conditions (regular mode, two external examiners, open viva, two papers with one refereed, two conference presentations) certified by the Registrar/Dean (Academic Affairs).
- NET/SLET/SET not required for Masters programmes in disciplines where it is not conducted.
- OR B: Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 (QS/THE/ARWU Shanghai).
