AIIMS Rishikesh - Project Research Scientist-I (ICMR Extramural Project)

Applications are invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers for the post of Project Research Scientist-I under the ICMR-funded collaborative research project entitled “Development and Clinical Validation of an Artificial Intelligence-empowered Antibiotic Susceptibility Device towards Optimizing Antimicrobial Therapy Regimen in Leukaemia & Bone Marrow Transplant Patients” (ICMR Proposal ID: IIRPIG-2023-0000773).

The project is undertaken in collaboration between AIIMS Rishikesh and IIT Roorkee, under the mentorship of Dr. Uttam Kumar Nath (Professor & Head, Dept. of Medical Oncology & Haematology, AIIMS Rishikesh) and Dr. Saugata Hazra (Associate Professor, BSBE, IIT Roorkee).

Essential Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology/Life Sciences/Bioinformatics/Microbiology/Molecular Biology or allied disciplines from a recognized University/Institute.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-Ph.D. research experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and/or third-generation/long-read sequencing.
  • Demonstrable experience in Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing, including library preparation, sequencing workflow and data generation.
  • Strong working knowledge of bioinformatics and computational analysis of sequencing data.

Desirable Technical Expertise

At least two published research papers in a good peer-reviewed journal. Preference to candidates with expertise in: Oxford Nanopore sequencing (MinION/GridION or related ONT platforms); Sanger and MiSeq sequencing; Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), metagenomic/shotgun metagenomics; processing and bioinformatic analysis of short and long-read data; bioinformatics tools/pipelines/databases for microbial genomics and AMR analysis; Linux/Unix with Python, R and/or Bash; handling and analysing clinical/microbiological samples; multidisciplinary collaborative research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform/coordinate Oxford Nanopore, Sanger and MiniSeq sequencing workflows.
  • Generate, process and analyse whole-genome and metagenomic sequencing datasets.
  • Develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines for microbial genome and AMR analysis.
  • Identify pathogens, antimicrobial resistance determinants and genomic signatures; integrate genomic data with microbiological, clinical and phenotypic susceptibility data.
  • Maintain documentation, data management and quality-control procedures; contribute to manuscripts, presentations, reports and IP development.
  • Work closely with investigators and teams at AIIMS Rishikesh and IIT Roorkee.
