The Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB NTPC) exam is one of the most applied-for government exams in India. In the 2024-2025 cycle, over 2.5 crore applications were received for approximately 35,000 posts.

What is RRB NTPC?

RRB NTPC recruits for non-technical posts in Indian Railways. Graduate level posts include Station Master, Goods Guard, Junior Account Assistant, Senior Clerk, Commercial Apprentice. Undergraduate level posts include Junior Clerk, Accounts Clerk, Ticket Collector.

Subject-Wise Strategy

Mathematics

Topic weightage: Number System (3-4), Simplification (2-3), Percentage (2-3), Profit & Loss (2-3), Ratio (2-3), Time & Work (2-3), Time Speed Distance (2-3), SI/CI (2-3), Algebra (2-3), Geometry (2-3), DI (3-4), Trigonometry (1-2).

Start with easy topics, master arithmetic before algebra/geometry, and practice at least 50 DI sets.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

Topics: Analogy, Classification, Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Syllogism, Puzzles, Non-Verbal Reasoning. Most scoring section — target 30 questions in 25 minutes.

General Awareness

The differentiating section. Topics include Indian History (8-10%), Polity (10-12%), Geography (8-10%), Economics (8-10%), General Science (10-12%), Current Affairs (15-20%), Railway-Specific GK (10-15%).

Railway-specific knowledge: 18 zones, headquarters, recent developments, new trains, ministers.

5-Month Preparation Plan

Month 1: Foundation — quant basics, reasoning basics, daily GA reading Month 2: Expansion — advanced quant, reasoning, GA intensive Month 3: Integration — full syllabus revision, sectional tests, first mock Month 4: Mock Mastery — 2-3 CBT-1 mocks per week, detailed analysis Month 5: CBT-2 Level Up — harder questions, deeper GA, 2 CBT-2 mocks per week
