The Civil Services Examination is spread over a full recruitment year, and UPSC declares a separate result for every major stage. How to Check UPSC CSE Result on upsc.gov.in
UPSC does not maintain an individual scorecard login for Civil Services Examination results. Written-stage results are declared as roll-number PDF notifications, while the final result eventually carries the names and ranks of recommended candidates. Follow these steps to check each result accurately.
- Visit the official UPSC website www.upsc.gov.in in any browser.
- For the Prelims and Mains written results, open the "Written Results" section (published under the "What's New" area). All written-stage roll-number list PDFs are hosted there.
- Locate the entry titled "Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2025" or "Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2025" and open the linked PDF notification.
- Use Ctrl+F inside the PDF and search for the roll number shown on your admit card. The same notice lists the category-wise cut-off marks and the number of candidates qualified for the next stage.
- For the final result, open the "Results" notifications on the homepage. UPSC first publishes the roll numbers of recommended candidates, followed by a name-wise list along with the "Marks secured by recommended candidates".

CSE 2025 Cut-off Marks – Category-wise Details
UPSC publishes cut-off marks separately for every stage of the Civil Services Examination. For the Preliminary Examination, the cut-off is applied only to Paper-I (General Studies), because CSAT Paper-II is qualifying in nature with a 33% minimum. Category-wise Prelims cut-offs are fixed for General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST and PwBD categories, keeping in view the number of openings and the difficulty of the paper.
For the Main Examination, UPSC shortlists candidates for the Interview based on category-wise cut-offs in the seven qualifying papers. The language and Essay papers are used to determine merit, but minimum qualifying marks must be secured in the Indian language and English papers. The final cut-off is determined after the Interview, based on the aggregate of the Mains (1,750 marks) and the Personality Test (275 marks). Separate category-wise final cut-offs are applied for General, EWS, OBC, SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Female category cut-offs are also published separately where applicable. Candidates should understand that cut-offs vary every year depending on the number of applications, the difficulty level of the question papers and the vacancy position. Selection Process and Next Stages After the Result
The CSE selection process has three competitive stages. The Preliminary Examination is an objective screening test consisting of Paper-I (General Studies) and Paper-II (CSAT). Only candidates clearing the Prelims cut-off are admitted to the Main Examination, which comprises nine descriptive papers: two language papers (qualifying), Essay, four General Studies papers and two optional-subject papers. Candidates who secure the Mains cut-off are called for the Interview/Personality Test of 275 marks, conducted by a UPSC board at Dholpur House.
The final merit list is prepared on the combined total of the Mains written marks and Interview marks, subject to a candidate's service preferences and eligibility checks. Recommended candidates undergo document verification and medical examination as per the Department of Personnel & Training guidelines before training allocation. Selected IAS officers join the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, while probationers of other services join their respective training institutions. Candidates who appear for the Interview but do not appear in the final merit list may look out for the reserve list, which UPSC publishes separately a few months after the final result.
