CDS 2025 – Result Timeline
The Combined Defence Services Examination is held twice a year, and the result of each exam is declared stage by stage. The result of the OTA course is declared separately from the IMA/AFA/NA entries. The table below summarises the key milestones of both CDS cycles of 2025.

How to Check UPSC CDS Result on upsc.gov.in
CDS results are published as roll-number PDF notices, and OTA result PDFs are released as separate entries. Each written-result notice also carries the SSB booking instructions. Follow the steps below to check the result and track your selection.
- Open the official UPSC website www.upsc.gov.in.
- Go to the "Written Results" section under "What's New". For the written stage, look for "Written Results of Combined Defence Services Examination (I) 2025" / "(II) 2025", and separately for the OTA entries.
- Open the relevant PDF and search your roll number (Ctrl+F). The notice lists roll numbers qualified for SSB along with the written-stage cut-off.
- Qualified candidates must register on the SSB interview date-choice intimation portal (link is given in the UPSC notice) to book their SSB date and centre.
- After the SSB rounds conclude, the final result is published under the "Results" notifications of the UPSC homepage with roll numbers of recommended candidates. OTA final merit is likewise listed in a separate final-result notice.
- UPSC does not publish candidate-wise scorecards for all stages; recommended candidates' marks are released through the marks disclosure document, and aggregate marks of all candidates may be sought after the cycle is complete.

CDS 2025 Cut-off Marks – Category-wise Details
CDS is conducted at two levels: (1) for IMA/AFA/NA, the paper has English (100 marks), General Knowledge (100 marks) and Elementary Mathematics (100 marks) — total 300 marks; (2) for OTA, the paper is only English and General Knowledge (200 marks). Different cut-offs are fixed for each entry type. In the written result, UPSC fixes minimum section-wise marks (for example, for English and General Knowledge) and a minimum aggregate, keeping in view the vacancies notified by the services.
The SSB interview carries 300 marks. The final merit list is prepared by adding written marks and SSB marks. The OTA final merit is prepared separately with a separate written cut-off. OTA has historically had a higher number of shortlisted candidates. UPSC publishes the written-stage cut-off in each written-result notification, and category-wise details (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) are also printed. Selection Process and Next Stages After the Result
On clearing the written result, candidates attend the SSB interview, which for CDS follows the standard two-stage pattern: Stage I is a screening (OIR test + PP&DT) on Day 1; Stage II comprises Psychological Tests, Group Testing Officer's Tasks and the Personal Interview spread over Days 2 to 4, with the Conference on Day 5. OTA candidates undergo the same SSB process (interview + psychological + GTO tasks), but medicals are not applied as stringently as other officer entries, and OTA has a separate merit list.
Candidates recommended by the SSB are medically examined at designated military hospitals. On the basis of the medical report and the combined merit, UPSC publishes the final result and allotted candidates join their respective academies: IMA (for Army), AFA (for Air Force), Naval Academy (for Navy) or OTA (for short-service commission, for both male and female candidates). OTA entries are short-service commission officers, and the terms of service differ from the permanent commission entries of IMA/AFA/NA. The reserve list, if any, is published separately for unallocated vacancies.
