- Indian citizen, or other national declared eligible by the Government of India
- Age not less than 21 years and not more than 45 years as on 01.01.2024 (relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST of West Bengal, 3 years for OBC-NCL of West Bengal, up to 45 years for PwBD with 40%+ disability, Ex-Servicemen as per rules)
- Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not mandatory for Nepali mother tongue, as per the advertisement note)

- Passed Madhyamik Examination or equivalent, and 3-year Diploma in Survey Engineering from a recognised institute (affiliated to AICTE or West Bengal State Council of Technical Education)
- OR: Passed Madhyamik or equivalent, and 2-year certificate course for Surveyor from a recognised Industrial Training Institute, and 1 year experience in Survey and Settlement work based on modern survey techniques
- The experience must be with a Government-empanelled organisation or an Indian GIS/Surveying company recognised under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (Department of Land Resources, GOI) having at least 3 years' experience in preparation of large-scale mapping and land records
- Candidate must be conversant with DGPS and/or Electronic Total Stations (ETS) technology

Scheme of examination:
- Paper-I (1 hour): Bengali/Nepali conventional type questions – 50 marks
- Paper-II (2 hours 30 minutes): English 50 + Elementary Mathematics 50 + Survey Engineering 100 = 200 marks, 200 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each
- Negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II
- The final merit list is prepared on the basis of Paper-II marks only
Reservation (as reported by the Department): SC 229, ST 69, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 80, PwBD (UR 35, SC 11), EWS 104, MSP 23, Ex-Servicemen (EWS 11, UR 34, SC 12).
Note: Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali is an essential requirement, but it is not mandatory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali, unless specifically mentioned. Candidature of candidates with poor performance in the Bengali knowledge test is liable to be cancelled.
