The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems (EEIS), School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo invites applications for the position of Project Researcher (Fixed-Term Project Staff) in the Kawahara Laboratory. This opportunity is ideal for researchers interested in next-generation semiconductor technologies, integrated circuit design, and international collaborative research.

Location: Hongo Campus, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
Employment Period: As soon as possible after 16 August 2026 until 31 March 2027
Contract Renewal: Renewable annually based on project progress, performance, work record, and institutional requirements.
Maximum Appointment Period: Up to 31 December 2028 (maximum of two renewals)
Probation Period: 14 days from the date of appointment
Research Project
The selected candidates will work on the JST Next-Generation Edge AI Semiconductor R&D Project, which focuses on developing event-driven next-generation low-power integrated circuits.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Researchers will be involved in:
Designing and developing event-driven integrated circuits using EDA tools such as Cadence and Synopsys.
Performing logic synthesis, placement and routing, simulation, and integrated circuit verification.
Compiling research outcomes and preparing research papers and conference presentations.
Conducting collaborative research activities with algorithm researchers and application researchers.
Participating in interdisciplinary and international research collaborations.
The laboratory intends to recruit:
One researcher in Digital Circuits
One researcher in Analog-Digital Circuits

Research Environment
The project includes collaboration with the Kosuge Laboratory, School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, and provides opportunities to interact with overseas researchers from countries such as:

Netherlands

Working Hours
Work Schedule: 5 days per week (Monday–Friday)
Standard Working Hours: 7 hours and 45 minutes per day
Working hours may be adjusted depending on project and institutional requirements.
