TIFR Mumbai - Research Assistant 2026 (Advertisement No. 2026/27)

• Applications are invited for one position of Research Assistant to work for the project "Indian participation in the CMS experiment at CERN: Maintenance, Operation and Upgradation 2020-2025" (PIs: Dr. Rajdeep Mohan Chatterjee & Dr. Shilpi Jain), Department of High Energy Physics, TIFR Mumbai.
• Last date for receipt of applications: 22 October 2026.
• Appointment is on temporary basis initially for one year, extendable up to a maximum of two more years based on performance.
• Age limit: 25 years as on the closing date of application.

Eligibility

• Essential: Full-Time Science Graduate (from a recognised University/Institute with aggregate 60% marks) in Physics and/or Electronics; OR Full-time Diploma in Electronics Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Electronics & Communication / Electronics and Telecommunication / Electronics & Telecommunication & Computer Science (DETCS) (from a recognised University/Institute with aggregate 60% marks).
• Knowledge of use of personal computers and their applications.
• Freshers as well as candidates with 1 or more years of experience in handling electronics (digital/analogue), power supply and control circuits. Experience in handling optical systems is an added advantage.
• Desirable: Knowledge of designing electronic circuits on PCBs, VME/NIM electronics and data acquisition systems for experiments; hands-on experience with optical devices such as lasers, photo detectors, fiber optics, using oscilloscopes.

Job Requirements

• Setup and operate experiments with different kinds of particle detectors, collect data and learn how to analyse the data.
• Help in maintenance of equipment in the lab, including power supplies.

Method of Selection

• Personal Interview. The appointment is temporary and non-pensionable; the candidate will have no claim for any permanent or temporary appointment in the Institute during or after the project period.
