Preparation Guidance

Derived strictly from the pattern and topic distribution in the official notification:

  • Paper-II carries three times the marks of Paper-I. Paper-II is 300 MCQ against Paper-I’s 100, so the majority of preparation time belongs with Agriculture and Horticulture.
  • Negative marking applies. The notification explicitly states negative marking on OMR sheets, so unattempted or wrongly answered questions carry a deduction – treat guessing as a calculated risk rather than a default.
  • General English is not just MCQ. 50 of the 100 Paper-I marks are MCQ, but 10 marks come from essay writing and precis writing – a written component that MCQ-only practice will not cover.
  • Horticulture is examined in far more depth than its Paper-II share suggests. It carries 11 discrete topic groups against Agriculture’s 8, including post-harvest management, processing (jam, jelly, marmalade, pickles with end-point judgement) and plant breeding – topics that are commonly skipped.
  • Agriculture splits cleanly into theory and practice. Cropping systems, tillage, irrigation and nutrient deficiency cover the written theory; farm machinery and mechanisation plus natural farming and bio-input production cover practice.
  • Integrated management is examinable. IPM and IDM are named explicitly – treat them as separate headings rather than folding them into general pest management.
  • General Knowledge is Sikkim-and-national in scope. The notification limits it to current affairs, current events of State and National importance, and important historical events of State and National importance.
