NLSIU Bengaluru Library Trainee Recruitment 2026 – 01 Post

The Shri Narayan Rao Melgiri Memorial National Law Library, National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has invited applications for one Library Trainee on a contractual basis for six months from the date of appointment. The engagement may be extended if required. The last date to apply is 09 November 2026 (5:00 PM IST).

Post and remuneration

• Post: Library Trainee – 01 (one)
• Tenure: Six months from the date of appointment; extendable if required
• Location: NLSIU, Bengaluru
• Honorarium: Rs. 20,000 per month, commensurate with qualifications

Eligibility

• Essential qualification: Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from a recognised university or institute.
• Essential skills: Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), KOHA and DSpace, and general IT skills; cataloguing of resources as per MARC 21 and AACR II/RDA standards.
• Experience: No prior experience is required. Freshers are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cataloguing (first priority): Copy cataloguing using Z39.50 (Library of Congress), editing and standardising records as per MARC 21 and RDA/AACR2, correcting bibliographic fields and updating legacy records where automated data is unavailable.
• Digitised collections (second priority): Reviewing scanned PDFs in Calibre, adding and standardising metadata, and updating accession numbers, call numbers and edition details.
• DANS institutional repository (last priority): Correcting dissertation titles and URLs, updating abstracts and refining metadata in DSpace.
• Selected candidates will be trained in all sections of the library and will spend considerable time cataloguing as per MARC and AACR II standards.
• The library operates from 9:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; candidates may be required to work rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays.
