Under the directions of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, NABARD has issued a scheme circular to all State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) for the engagement of Cooperative Interns to strengthen the cooperative movement at the grassroots level. Each StCB / DCCB may hire one young professional as a Cooperative Intern for a one-year tenure. Interested candidates must apply to the concerned State / District Cooperative Bank as per their individual advertisement.

Objectives of the Scheme
- To deepen the cooperative movement till grassroots level.
- To enable professional graduates to learn the context and practical working of cooperatives.
- To expand the pool of experienced cooperative professionals.

Tenure and Remuneration
Each intern is hired for a period of one year and the scheme is valid for three years. The selected Cooperative Intern is paid a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 25,000 /-, which is reimbursed from the Cooperative Education Fund, Ministry of Cooperation through NCDC. TA/DA is provided by the StCBs / DCCBs from their own funds. Interns may avail 10 days Casual Leave in a year; no other leave is granted (other leave is treated as leave without remuneration).
Roles and Duties of the Intern
- Coordinate with PACS and other primary cooperatives and provide guidance for implementation of initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India.
- Solve day-to-day problems faced by PACS in computerization, preparation of business plans, projects, financing issues, various approvals etc.
- Prepare and share weekly status reports on the implementation of Ministry of Cooperation initiatives in coordination with DCCB / StCB.
Posting and Selection
- Selected interns are posted to all DCCBs and one at the StCB based on their choice of district to reap the benefits of local understanding.
- The State Cooperative Bank initiates the hiring / selection procedure by advertising the vacancy on a yearly basis, clearly stipulating eligibility, remuneration, age limit, tenure and other terms as per the circular.
- Interns are to be hired within one month of receipt of the circular.
- NCDC administers the scheme with the support of State Governments; NABARD monitors the implementation, which is executed by the StCBs.
Important Terms and Conditions
- The internship is neither employment nor an assurance of employment in the Bank or associated institutions.
- Internship is a full-time programme; interns must observe the working hours of the Banks.
- Interns must maintain confidentiality of all documents / reports / information received during the internship.
- Interns must follow the rules and regulations of the concerned StCB / DCCB and shall not interact with or represent the Bank to the media or social media without permission.
