JSO conducts scientific examination and analysis of forensic exhibits in the respective division (DNA, Fingerprint, Chemistry, Ballistics & Toolmarks, Questioned Documents, Photography, Cyber Forensics); attends crime scenes for identification, documentation, collection and preservation of evidence; maintains chain of custody; operates forensic instruments; prepares scientific reports; assists investigating agencies; and deposes as expert witness in courts.
Educational Qualifications (Specialization-wise)
- JSO (DNA): M.Sc. Forensic Science OR M.Sc. Human Genetics OR M.Sc. Biotechnology OR M.Sc. Biochemistry OR M.Sc. Microbiology OR M.Sc. Genetics / Molecular Biology.
- JSO (Fingerprint): M.Sc. Forensic Science.
- JSO (Chemistry): M.Sc. Forensic Science OR M.Sc. Chemistry OR M.Sc. Biochemistry.
- JSO (Ballistics & Toolmarks): M.Sc. Forensic Science OR M.Sc. Physics OR M.Sc. Mathematics / Applied Mathematics OR B.E. (Civil/Mechanical).
- JSO (Questioned Documents): M.Sc. Forensic Science.
- JSO (Photography): M.Sc. Forensic Science (Digital/Multimedia specialization) OR B.E./B.Tech. or above in Computer Science or Electronics.
- JSO (Cyber Forensic): M.Sc. (Cyber/Digital Forensics) OR M.Sc. Forensic Science (Digital/Cyber specialization) OR B.Tech. (Cyber/Digital Forensics) OR MCA/M.Sc. IT OR B.E. and above in Computer Science.
- Desirable for all: Working experience in a recognized forensic science laboratory.
Eligibility Conditions
- Age (as on 01.08.2026): Minimum 18 years and maximum 30 years. Upper age limit relaxable up to 5 years for ST/SC candidates.
- Computer Proficiency: As prescribed by Mizoram Group 'A', 'B' & 'C' posts Service/Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2023.
- Mizo Language Proficiency: Pass mark in qualifying test required (exempted for those who studied Mizo in Class-X or opted Mizo as MIL outside Mizoram).

Fee payment through UPI / online as prescribed by MPSC; fee once paid is non-refundable. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are exempted from payment of application fees.

- Fill the application, make payment and upload mandatory documents (marksheets & certificates HSLC and above, computer proficiency proof, Mizo language proof, SC/ST certificate if applicable, proof of date of birth).
- Verify that the application is actually submitted after payment. Last date for submission: 27.08.2026 upto 4:00 PM.
