JNCASR System Administrator (NSM Project) Contract 2026 - 1 Post
JNCASR, an autonomous research institution under DST, Government of India, invites applications for System Administrator (1 Post) under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) Project on contract basis (Advt. No. 02/NSM/2026-27 dated 27.08.2026).

Position Overview
The System Administrator handles day-to-day Linux system administration on NSM HPC clusters PARAM Yukti and Malaigae, including user management, Slurm job scheduler support, and cluster node monitoring. Must be willing to work flexible hours and relocate closer to campus if required.
Essential Qualifications
- BE/B.Tech in CSE/ECE/EEE/IT with 2-4 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience.
- Proficiency in Bash shell scripting and Linux command-line tools for monitoring and administration.
Desirable Qualifications
- HPC cluster tools: Slurm/PBS, xCAT, Lmod/Environment Modules.
- LDAP-based user authentication and provisioning.
- InfiniBand networking, Lustre filesystem, or NFS.
- C-DAC PG Diploma in IT Infrastructure, System and Security / HPC System Administration.
Roles and Responsibilities
- User account management on PARAM Yukti and Malaigae using automation scripts, Slurm account setup via sacctmgr, home directory configuration, and user onboarding documentation.
- Password management across login and compute nodes (passwd, chpasswd, xdsh).
- First-level Slurm job support: diagnosing failed jobs, node state checks (sinfo, squeue), GPU/resource misconfiguration identification.
- Cluster node health monitoring: compute node availability, IB link status, Lustre/NFS filesystem health, anomaly reporting.
- Scientific software module installation, Lmod module file maintenance, spider cache rebuilding.
- Hardware support: node rebooting, IPMI checks, cable/network verification under HPC Facility Manager direction.
- Record keeping of user accounts, job submissions, system events; monthly usage reports; SOP documentation.
