The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) invites applications from Indian nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and foreign nationals for faculty positions at the levels of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor Grade-I and Assistant Professor Grade-II (Contract). This is a rolling (open-ended) advertisement: applications are accepted online round the year and there is no last date.

Posts and Pay Levels

Eligibility

• PhD with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record in all preceding degrees.
• Professor: 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience, of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor.
• Associate Professor: 6 years of teaching/research/industrial experience, of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
• Assistant Professor: PhD; a fresh PhD holder is appointed on contract for the first three years, with regularisation thereafter. Candidates with three or more years of post-PhD teaching/research/industrial experience may be appointed on a regular basis.
• Foreign nationals may be offered a contractual appointment for up to five years, renewable thereafter; PIO/OCI card holders can be considered for permanent faculty positions.

Reservation and Other Conditions

• Reservation in direct recruitment is as per the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Act, 2019. SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD candidates must attach the caste/category certificate in the prescribed Government of India format; the Central list applies.
• The Institute may relax the minimum qualification and/or experience for candidates with outstanding credentials. An applicant not found suitable for a higher position may be considered for a lower position in the same area of specialisation.
• Applicants employed in Government or Semi-Government organisations must produce a No Objection Certificate from the employer at the time of interview.
• Mere eligibility does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview. The Institute may withdraw any advertised post at any time.

Salary and Benefits

• Pay as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (table above) plus all allowances admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at Kanpur.
• Additional top-up salary of Rs.25,000 per month for the first three years of service; thereafter, the Young Faculty Fellowship provides a top-up of Rs.15,000 per month for three years (faculty up to 40 years of age), subject to performance.
• Research initiation grant of up to Rs.25 lakh, with the provision to apply for a supplementary grant; financial support for national and international conferences.
• HRA (if Institute housing is not provided), LTC, medical reimbursement, transport allowance, children's education allowance and NPS employer contribution; joining travel reimbursement, including international travel up to Rs.1,50,000.
