IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad invites applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a research project funded through the TTDF Scheme of the Department of Telecommunications.

The project is being implemented through TCOE India in the Department of Electronics Engineering.

Project Title

“Silicon Photonic Chip-Based N × N Photonic Switches for 6G and Beyond”

Project Duration

The initial appointment will be for one year and may be renewed based on satisfactory performance and project requirements.

The maximum tenure will be two years or until the completion of the project, whichever is earlier.

Essential Qualification

Candidates must have First Class, at least 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA in one of the following:

• M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication or a related discipline

• B.Tech./B.E. in Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication or an equivalent discipline

• M.Sc. in Electronics

• M.Sc. in Physics with specialisation in Electronics or Photonics

Applicants must have qualified GATE or NET.

Desirable Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of:

• Photonic integrated circuits

• Silicon photonics and communication systems

• Microelectronics and optoelectronics

• Nanotechnology

• Optical communication

• VLSI

• ANSYS Lumerical

• MATLAB

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work on:

• Designing integrated silicon photonic N × N optical switches

• Validating performance through FDTD and INTERCONNECT simulations

• Preparing fabrication-ready layouts using PDK and KLayout

• Conducting device-level and system-level characterisation

Fellowship

• First and Second Year: INR 37,000 per month

• Third Year: INR 42,000 per month, as stated in the notification

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 35 years. Relaxation will be provided to eligible SC, ST, OBC, PwD and women candidates according to Government of India norms.
