IIM Calcutta – Professor of Practice Positions, 2026

IIM Calcutta invites applications for Professor of Practice positions from highly experienced and accomplished management professionals. Professors of Practice are expected to facilitate novel practice-oriented pedagogies by promoting active learning, creativity and innovation, and to teach in different programmes as per the norms of the Institute. They are also expected to promote industry-institute linkages through executive education, support to IIMC's centres and programmes, resource generation and consulting assignments.

Minimum Qualification and Experience

• Must have proven expertise in their specific profession or role with preferably 15 years of service/experience at a senior level.
• Applicants should preferably be below the age of 65 years on the date of the advertisement.
• Must have significant potential to develop industry/government/international connect and the ability to leverage the same for the benefit of the Institute, including bringing research and consulting projects and serving as a liaison between the Institute and industry or government entities.
• Ideally hold a Master's/Ph.D. degree in any discipline (or equivalent professional qualification) from an Institute of national or international repute. For candidates with significant senior-level industry experience, possession of a Master's/Ph.D. may not be considered essential.

Remuneration

The selected candidate will be paid ₹1,20,000 per month (all inclusive), subject to 15 equivalent hours of engagement per month on an average during the period of contract. Engagement includes involvement in degree/diploma teaching, executive education and external consulting as per the norms prevailing in the Institute. Additional permissible hours spent in teaching, executive education and external consulting will be paid as per rules applicable to regular Institute faculty. During the days of engagement, accommodation on campus may be provided subject to availability, and shared office space may be provided.

Duration and Nature of Engagement

This is a contractual appointment for one year. The contract may be renewed based on performance, up to a maximum of three years from the date of initial engagement. Professors of Practice may be hired as full-time Chair Professor of Practice as per the Institute Chair Professor of Practice policy.

Group-wise Requirements

• Human Resource Management (HRM): strategic HRM, international HRM, industrial relations management, HR analytics and technological integration, and HR development and learning. An MBA, preferably in HRM/IR from a renowned institution, is desirable.
• Organisational Behaviour (OB): balancing AI/ML with managing people in large enterprises; leading managerial or leadership roles in a large established global enterprise.
• Finance and Control (F&C): mergers, acquisitions and restructurings; project finance; banking and treasury management.
• Management Information Systems (MIS): augmented reality/virtual reality, metaverse, systems thinking and data science; smart cities, robotic process automation, regulatory aspects of IT and healthcare technologies.
• Public Policy and Management (PPM): legal compliance, ease of business, social sector and ESG; senior government bureaucrats, consultants, executives in multilateral agencies or entrepreneurs.
• Marketing (MKTG): product management and/or international marketing.
• Operations Management (OM): infrastructure management, technology management and product management.
• Strategic Management (SM): strategy and sustainability, AI-centric business models, managing R&D centres and skunkworks, managing family offices and trusts, and managing succession in family businesses.
