Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) invites applications for Predoctoral Research Assistant positions under the supervision of Prof. Jasdeep Mandia (Economics). Keywords: Environmental Economics, Urban Economics, Energy Economics, Applied Microeconomics, Empirical Industrial Organization, Discrete Choice Models.
| Work description | Predoctoral research assistants work with various Principal Investigators (PIs) on all aspects of empirical research — from assembling and cleaning large datasets to regression analysis and estimating choice models. The work is data-intensive and combines hands-on data work with economic modelling, feeding into academic papers, policy reports and grant writing. |
| Who should be interested | Candidates who enjoy data-intensive work combined with economic modelling and want strong research experience before applying to top PhD programmes in economics or related disciplines. |
| Qualifications | At least a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or a related discipline with high quantitative and/or mathematical content (a Master’s degree is preferred). Some experience conducting economic analysis (e.g., estimating regression models with observational data) and comfort programming in Stata, R or Python. Experience with discrete choice models or other structural methods appreciated. Interest in energy, environmental or urban economics expected. |
| Responsibilities | Conduct empirical research using econometric and computational techniques on large-scale administrative, household and survey data; contribute to academic publications and policy reports; present findings in seminars and workshops. |
| Tenure | Initial appointment for eleven months, subject to satisfactory progress, with the possibility of extension based on performance and future opportunities. |
| Selection Process | Shortlisted applicants will be tested on the abilities needed for the work described; candidates in the final stage will be interviewed. |
