IIA Bengaluru Library Trainee Eligibility Criteria 2026
- Postgraduate degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.I.Sc.) from a reputed university or institution.
- Final-year students awaiting results may also apply, but must produce the consolidated or final semester mark sheets at the time of interview.
- Age limit 26 years as on the closing date; relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates as per Government of India norms.
- Desirable: basic computer knowledge and working knowledge of library automation software (Koha, Libsys), institutional repository software (DSpace, EPrints), archives management (ArchivesSpace, Atom), research data management (CKAN, Figshare) or content management (Drupal, WordPress).
- Desirable: consistent academic record with above 60% marks throughout and UGC-NET or SLET/SET qualification.
- Only candidates of Indian nationality may apply.

About the post
The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, invites online applications from fresh postgraduates for one post of Library Trainee at its Bengaluru campus. Advertisement No. IIA/13/2026-27 dated 22.10.2026.
Training and tenure
The Institute offers training in library and archives with hands-on experience in library science and archival practices. The traineeship is for one year, extendable annually for up to four more years (five years in total), subject to satisfactory performance and project requirement. The selected candidate is liable to be posted anywhere in India.
Remuneration
Consolidated remuneration of Rs. 30,000 per month, inclusive of all allowances, with an annual increase of Rs. 2,500 based on satisfactory performance.
