The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India has invited applications for appointment to the post of Presiding Officer in Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) at 20 locations across the country, under Vacancy Circular F. No. 07/09/2026-DRT (notification dated 01.10.2026, with Corrigendum dated 10.10.2026).

Vacancy Details (20 Posts)

Educational Qualification & Eligibility

• A person shall not be qualified for appointment as Presiding Officer of a Debts Recovery Tribunal unless he is, or has been, a District Judge, or is, or has been, a member of the Indian Legal Service in Grade I or above.
• A person holding or who has held the post of Chairperson or Member of any Tribunal shall be eligible for re-appointment.
• A serving Judge of the Supreme Court/High Court or a serving member of any Central/State Government service must resign or obtain voluntary retirement from the parent service before joining the Tribunal.

Age & Tenure

• A Presiding Officer of a DRT shall hold office for a term of five years or till he attains the age of seventy (70) years, whichever is earlier (Section 17(1)(a), Tribunal Reforms Act).

Pay

• As per the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021, as amended from time to time.

How to Apply

• Duly filled-in original applications in the prescribed format (Annexure-I) should reach the Under Secretary (DRT), Department of Financial Services, 3rd Floor, Jeevan Deep Building, Sansad Marg, New Delhi - 110001 latest by 5:00 PM on or before 09.11.2026.
• Applications of eligible and willing officers are to be routed through the proper channel wherever applicable.

Enclosures

• Bio-data in the proforma at Annexure-I.
• Certificate by the employer/head of office/forwarding authority (Annexure-II), wherever applicable.
• Clear photocopies of the up-to-date CR/APAR dossier of the officer for at least the last five years (2021-22 to 2025-26) duly attested by a Group A officer.
• Cadre clearance (serving candidates), integrity/vigilance clearance (Annexure-III), and a statement of major/minor penalties imposed during the last ten years.

Selection Process

• The Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under the Tribunal Reforms Act shall scrutinise the applications, give due weightage to qualification and experience, and shortlist candidates for personal interaction. Final selection is based on overall evaluation (qualification, experience and personal interaction).

Important Instructions

• No TA/DA is admissible for the interview/interaction.
