Cotton University Field Investigator Recruitment 2026

Cotton University, Guwahati invites applications from eligible candidates for the position of Field Investigator under an ICSSR-funded research project titled “Preserving the Silent Chronicles of Assam: Collection and Archiving of Non-commercial Magazines from 1947 to 2000”. This is a contractual engagement for a period of 3 months (extendable based on project requirements).

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications:

• Post-Graduate degree in Social Sciences or related discipline from a recognized university.
• Minimum 55% marks in the qualifying examination.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Fluency in English and Assamese languages (reading, writing, and speaking).
• Proficiency in computer operations and digital archiving tools.
• Prior experience in fieldwork, survey, and data collection.
• Familiarity with the cultural and literary history of Assam.
• Experience in working with primary source documents and archival material.

Job Responsibilities

• Travelling to various districts and towns across Assam to locate, identify, and collect non-commercial magazines published between 1947 and 2000.
• Documenting and cataloguing the collected magazines with relevant metadata.
• Coordinating with collectors, libraries, and cultural organizations for sourcing rare publications.
• Scanning, digitizing, and creating high-quality digital copies of collected materials.
• Assisting in the preparation of a comprehensive archival database.
• Compiling field reports and research notes for the principal investigators.
• Performing any other tasks assigned by the PI/Co-PI related to the project.

• Selected candidates must join within 7 days of the offer of appointment.
• Any legal dispute arising out of this engagement will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in Guwahati, Assam.
