Chhattisgarh High Court, Bilaspur Eligibility Criteria 2026
- Three-year professional or five-year integrated degree in law from a law college or recognised university anywhere in India.
- At least 55% marks in the LL.B. examination; the final LL.B. mark sheet must be produced at the time of interview.
- Open to law graduates who have not started practice as an advocate and are not engaged in any other profession, vocation or service. Candidates who have appeared in the LL.B. final year examination and are awaiting results may also apply.
- Computer knowledge: data entry, word processing and computer operations.
- Age between 21 and 30 years as on 1 January 2026; age relaxation as per State Government rules.
- SC, ST and OBC reservation is available only to bonafide residents of Chhattisgarh; OBC candidates must not be in the creamy layer. Reservation for women is only for local residents of Chhattisgarh.
- A candidate having more than one spouse, or married to a person who already has a living legally wedded spouse, is not eligible. A candidate involved in a criminal case, whether convicted or charge-sheeted, is barred.

About the post
The High Court of Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur invites applications for 11 posts of Legal Assistant on purely contractual engagement under Advertisement No. 05/Legal Assistant/2026 dated 15.10.2026. Legal Assistants are attached to Hon'ble Judges and assist them with legal research, drafting of memoranda and opinions, notes on statutes, and maintenance of case files and records.

Pay and period of engagement
Fixed honorarium of Rs.30,000 per month, with no Dearness Allowance and no other allowance or perquisite such as residential accommodation. The engagement is for a fixed term of one year, extendable periodically up to a maximum of three years subject to the approval of the Hon'ble the Chief Justice, and may be terminated at any time without notice.
Selection
Competence is judged on the basis of interview only. Candidates are called for interview after screening of applications. No TA is payable for attending the interview.

Other conditions
- After the engagement ends, a Legal Assistant shall not appear in any case handled by the Judge(s) with whom he or she was attached; an undertaking to this effect must be furnished in the prescribed proforma.
- Leave of absence up to a maximum of 8 days per year, as approved by the Judge concerned.
- The advertisement, recruitment and appointment are subject to the final outcome of S.L.P. (C) No. 19666/2022 pending before the Supreme Court of India.
