Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), 15 Nehru Path (Bailey Road), Patna-800004 has released the detailed Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 advertisement (Advertisement No. 14/2026 dated 18 August 2026) for recruitment of 32,388 School Teachers under the Education Department, Government of Bihar, for Classes 1 to 12 (including Special School Teachers, Classes 9-10).

Note: Total vacancies may increase/decrease based on revised requisitions received from the departments. Supplementary requisitions for subjects like Bangla, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic, Persian, Agriculture etc. will be intimated after receipt from the General Administration Department.

Bihar Public Service Commission Eligibility Criteria 2026 (TET)

• Primary (Classes 1-5): Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) OR 4-year B.El.Ed OR 2-year Diploma in Special Education, etc. as per NCTE norms.
• Middle (Classes 6-8): Graduate with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education OR Graduate/PG with 50% + B.Ed / B.Ed (Special Education) OR 4-year BA.Ed/BSc.Ed/B.El.Ed, etc. as per NCTE norms.
• Secondary & Special School Teacher (Classes 9-10): Graduate/PG in the specified subject with at least 50% marks + B.Ed from NCTE-recognized institute; Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Dance, Computer Science etc. have their own prescribed qualifications as detailed in the notification.
• Senior Secondary (Classes 11-12): Post-Graduate in the specified subject with at least 50% marks + B.Ed from NCTE-recognized institute; Commerce (EPS/Accountancy/Business Studies), Agriculture, Computer Science, Music etc. have their own prescribed qualifications.

TET Requirement: Candidates must be qualified in the respective Teacher Eligibility Test:

Teachers appointed before 2022 who are serving and have passed the proficiency test are exempt from the TET requirement. Candidates appearing in STET-2026 can apply provided they clear STET-2026 before the preliminary exam, else no admit card will be issued.

Bihar Public Service Commission Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026)

• Minimum Age: 18 years for Primary (1-5) and Middle (6-8); 21 years for Secondary (9-10) and Senior Secondary (11-12)
• Maximum Age: Unreserved (Male) 37 years; BC/EBC (Male & Female) 40 years; Unreserved Female 40 years; Transgender 42 years; SC/ST 42 years
• Retirement age: 60 years
• Relaxation: Govt. servants of Bihar +5 years (max 5 attempts), Disabled +10 years, Ex-servicemen up to age 57 years, PRI/Nagar Nigam teachers - age relaxed as per rules.

• Exam fee: Rs. 100/- per level (Classes 1-5, 6-8, 9-10, 11-12 separately; separate fee for each class group applied for)
• Biometric fee: Rs. 200/-
• If Aadhaar number is not filled in the application: additional Rs. 200/- fee
• Payment via SBI Payment Gateway (bank charges extra). Fee is non-refundable.

• Preliminary Exam: Objective (MCQ), 2 hours, 150 questions of 1 mark each, 5 options, negative marking of 1/3 mark per wrong/unanswered question. Qualifying marks: UR 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST/Women/Disabled 32%. Syllabus: General Science, Current Events, History of India & Bihar, Geography, Polity, Economy, National Movement, Mental Ability.
• Main Exam: Objective (MCQ), 2 hours, 150 marks, negative marking of 1/3 mark. Paper split into Language (qualifying, min 30% required), General Studies and Subject Paper as per level (STET/SCERT/NCERT-based syllabus).
• No Interview. Final merit list based on Main Exam marks. Candidates can select up to 38 district choices; results published only for opted districts.
• No re-evaluation provision. Candidates can appear in the exam maximum 5 times.

1. Visit the official BPSC portal: bpsconline.bihar.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR).
2. Fill profile (Personal, Address, Other, Qualification, Experience info) and lock profile.
3. Under New Application tab, select the TRE 4.0 advertisement, choose post/subject, pay fee via SBI Payment Gateway and submit the application.
4. Download and print the final application form with Application Number/Application ID/Bar Code for records.
