The Law Department, Government of Bihar, through the office of the Advocate General, Bihar, High Court, Patna, invites willingness from eligible advocates for engagement against different categories of posts of Law Officers of the Government of Bihar in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, under the Bihar Law Officers (Engagement) Rules, 2023, vide Notice Ref. No. 8769 dated 27 October 2026.

Eligibility
- The advocate must be eligible as per the eligibility criteria fixed in the Bihar Law Officers (Engagement) Rules, 2023.
- Valid enrolment certificate of the Bar Council and enrolment number.
- AOR number (Advocate-on-Record), where applicable.
- Details of location and courts of practice along with the name of the Bar Association.
- Length of practice and whether the advocate is a designated Senior Advocate.
- Particulars of earlier empanelment/engagement, if any.
- Declaration on any criminal or disciplinary proceeding pending or decided against the advocate.
How to Apply
- Submit willingness in the prescribed format annexed with the notice (Law Department, Government of Bihar, Patna).
- The application must be on A-4 paper and the written text must be clear and succinct.
- Send the application with all requisites to the office of the Advocate General, Bihar, High Court, Patna through e-mail at [email protected], by speed post or courier, or by hand.
- Attach a recent passport-size photograph in the space provided and sign the declaration that the information given is true and correct and that the terms and conditions for engagement/empanelment are accepted.
Documents to be Submitted with the Willingness
- Enrolment certificate.
- Identity card issued by the Bar Association/Bar Council.
- Copies of Income Tax returns of the last three preceding years.
Particulars Required in the Format
- Name of advocate; father’s/husband’s name; date of birth; PAN.
- Address with mobile number and e-mail ID.
- Enrolment number (self-attested Xerox copy of the certificate to be enclosed) and AOR number.
- Location and courts of practice along with the name of the Association; length of practice.
- Whether designated as Senior Advocate (Yes/No).
- Earlier empanelment/engagement.
- Whether any criminal/disciplinary proceeding has been initiated against the advocate.
- Income tax paid during the last three years (assessment year, income, income tax).
Selection and Engagement
- Engagement will be made after the selection and recommendation of the advocate(s) by the Selection Committee constituted under Rule 4 of the Bihar Law Officers (Engagement) Rules, 2023.
- Mere making of willingness does not give a right to be engaged as a law officer; all rights regarding selection and engagement are reserved with the Law Department and its decision is final.
- Engaged law officers will receive fee and other facilities (if any) as determined and notified by the Law Department, Government of Bihar, Patna, from time to time. The fee is not specified in this notice.
- Other terms and conditions of engagement are as laid down in the Engagement Rules, 2023 or as notified by the Law Department.
- Observance of the instructions mentioned in the format is mandatory; non-observance may lead to non-acceptance of the willingness.
