Eligibility (UGC Regulations, 2018)
A. (i) A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale) in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university; and (ii) the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC such as SLET/SET, or must hold a Ph.D. awarded in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments. Candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme before 11 July 2009 are governed by the then existing ordinances and are exempted from NET/SLET/SET subject to the conditions laid down in the advertisement.
B. A Ph.D. degree obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the world by QS, THE or the Shanghai ARWU (at any time).
NET/SLET/SET is not required for those Master's programmes for which the test is not conducted. For Assistant Professor in Sanskrit, Hindu Studies and Indian Knowledge System (IKS), proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Sanskrit is required.
